Auto Design — Generating a PEC-Compliant Electrical Layout from a Floor Plan

Auto Design takes a floor plan and produces a first-pass electrical design — the part of the job that is mostly rules and repetition — so your time goes to review and refinement.

The pipeline

1. Room detection — the model reads the floor plan and identifies rooms, their boundaries, areas, and likely function.
2. Circuit layout — it groups load into branch circuits per PEC practice (lighting separate from receptacles, dedicated circuits for large appliances, circuit counts within limits).
3. Device placement — luminaires by a lighting rule of thumb, receptacles by spacing rules, switches at doors, with an overlay on your floor plan.
4. Bill of Materials — devices, wiring, conduit, boxes, and the panel schedule, as an editable BOM.

Rules it applies

• Receptacle spacing so no point along a wall is beyond the code distance from an outlet.
• Separate lighting and small-power circuits; dedicated circuits for fixed appliances.
• Circuit loading kept within a target (e.g. 80% of the breaker).
• Panel schedule with phase assignment and a spare allowance.

Reviewing the output

Auto Design produces a draft. Check:

• Room function assumptions (a mislabelled room changes its load).
• Special requirements — GFCI/RCD areas, exterior and wet locations, equipment you know about that the plan does not show.
• Homerun routing and any long runs that need a voltage-drop upsize.
• The panel and service size against a full load calculation.
