The Complete Solar PV Bill of Materials Checklist

The two big-ticket items are easy to remember. Estimates go wrong on the dozens of small lines that together are nearly half the job.

Generation

• PV modules (with spares allowance)
• Inverter(s) — string, hybrid, or micro; plus any battery inverter
• Battery modules, rack, and BMS (hybrid/off-grid)
• Backup generator and ATS (off-grid)

Mounting

• Rails, mid/end clamps, splices
• Roof attachments, standoffs, tilt legs, ballast
• Flashing kits, sealant, EPDM pads

DC wiring & protection

• PV wire, MC4 connectors, cable clips
• DC string cable in conduit, conduit and fittings
• Combiner box, string fuses/holders, DC isolator(s)
• DC SPD (Type 2)

AC wiring & protection

• Inverter AC cable, conduit
• AC isolator, backfed breaker, AC SPD
• Net metering / production meter provision
• Backup loads sub-panel and transfer (hybrid)

Earthing & bonding

• Module and rail grounding lugs/clips, bonding jumpers
• Equipment grounding conductor, ground bar
• Ground rod(s) if a separate array electrode is required

Monitoring & commissioning

• Data logger / gateway, CTs, comms cabling or antenna
• Labels and placards (DC/AC warning, shutdown, SLD placard)
• Commissioning test equipment time, string I–V and insulation tests

Labour, plant & soft costs

• Install labour crew-hours, electrician hours
• Access equipment / scaffold / lifeline
• Engineering, drawings, PE sign-off
• Electrical permit, net metering application fees
• Transport, project management, contingency
